There is an over supply of competing products in every shape and size imaginable on our supermarket shelves. We women of the western world can take our pick among pads and tampons. It is not so in the developing world. Having your period is such a basic bodily function but it makes millions of women all over the world vulnerable. Having to deal with taboos and cultural issues they often suffer in silence.
'Days for Girls' is an international charity founded in response to this by Celeste Mergens. The vision is to see every girl and woman in the world with ready feasible access to quality sustainable hygiene and health education by 2022. You can read her story here
Days for Girls International is bringing change creating a more dignified, humane and sustainable world for girls through advocacy, reproductive health awareness, education and sustainable feminine hygiene - because no girl should go without. All with these washable feminine hygiene kits.
Local Coffs Harbour Woman, Beth Murray is taking her own 'Days for Girls' project to the Philippines. She will be visiting a couple of villages and helping women setting up micro business over there, sewing and selling these kits. Mimi and I think it's a great concept to support so this is the chosen charity for our 'Spring Fashion by the Creek'. You and your friends can be part in helping us raise some funds for Beth by coming along. You need to pre-purchase a ticket either in store over the phone or online.
